The Divisible and the Indivisible: Deivathin Kural (Part one 1-09)
There is only one sun. Take a little water in the cup of the hand and
sprinkle it on a smooth surface. Every drop of the water reflects the
sun. Though there are so many reflections of sun in the water drops,
there is only one sun. Likewise, the life forms emit light from inside
and are the reflections of Braḥmam. Sankara said this in Braḥma Sūtra
Bhāṣya.
That which is the source of all, is that one Sakthi.
The boundless Indivisible
Intellect appears as the divided entity in us.
It is far away and yet being so
near. Veda Tatvas say, “That You Are.”
It appears that we understand all this I said in a moment. If we remain
so, there is no sorrow. The next moment, we lose this true perception.
By our falsity, we become subject to troubles. The joy we get out
of falsity becomes false. If one wants to be in bliss, we should
associate with the truthful. The
Truthful is Swamy (God) only. As individuals, we should cling on to him.
We are all individuals. When the individuals become one with the
Indivisibles, it becomes perpetual Bliss.
The Indivisible is only one. Being an Individual is a notion or a mere
thought. Mere thought and dream are not everlasting truth.
First, we must meditate on the Indivisible as individuals (the
Divisibles) with forms, names, and attributes. As the last modality,
Nirguṇa Brahman meditation prevents conflicts and squabbles, and the
meditator will not suffer sadness, fear… Supreme Peace prevails. This is
the fruit given to us from the tree of Upaniṣad by Srī Sankara.
Before attaining the state of fruit (ripeness, maturity), we go through
the stages of bud, flower, immature fruit, raw fruit and then maturity.
We must be patient going from bud to mature fruit. Hurrying up this
process and getting frustrated serve no purpose. Ramalinga Swāmigaḷ says
we should be cautious not falling into that state. Until the state of
ripe fruit arrives, we must resort to Pūja, Japam and Tapas. We need
these practices until we come to the end of Veda, Tat-Tatvam (That
Principle) as the Truth. That is when it ripens without frustration.
Where is that Tatvam or the Source? It is within ourselves. We can
experience it. |
