Secrets of Garuda Purana After death, a soul acquires a pinda-body (Food-Body) by the performance of karma for the first thirteen days on earth by his immediate family member. With that body it will proceed towards Yamapuri. On reaching Yamapuri, it becomes a subtle body the size of a thumb and stays in the Vanni tree – Indian Mesquit - outside Yamapuri. The Garuda Purana says that after that, he will get a karmic body and go to hells. |

"One who has snatched another's wife, property and cows, one who amassed
wealth by cheating relatives, one who steals money from relatives in the
house where the dead body is kept, one who fills lakes, ponds and wells
with mud and sells them and collects money, etc., will take a dead birth
after death. |
| 3C. இவர்கள் தவிர, இயற்கைக்கு மாறாக துர்மரணம் அடைந்தவர்கள், கொடிய மிருகங்களால் கொல்லப்பட்டவர்கள், வாரிசு இல்லாமல் இறந்தவர்கள், பெற்ற தாய் தந்தையருக்குக் கர்மா காரியங்கள் செய்யாமல் விட்டவர்கள் போன்றவர்களும் பிரேத ஜன்மத்தை அடைவார்கள்'' என்றார் பகவான் விஷ்ணு. 3C | 3C. Apart from these, those

animals, those who have died without an heir, those who have not
performed karma for their parents, etc., will also attain corpse birth,"

Human bodies are made up of five elements—prithvi (earth), Jal (water), Agni (fire), Vayu (air) and Akasa (space)—but preta bodies are made up of only two, Vayu and Akasa (Air and Space). |

| 3F. மேலும் உறவினர்கள் வீடுகளில் பித்ருக்களுக் குத் தரும் ஸ்ரார்த்த உணவைத் தடுத்துத் தானே உண்ணும். இதனால் சிராத்தம் செய்தவனுக்கு அதன் நற்பலன்கள் கிடைக்காது போகும். பிரேத ஜன்மம் எடுக்காதபடிக்கு வாழும்போதே நற்காரியங்களைச் செய்து நல் வழியில் நடந்து தன் ஆன்மப் பயணத்தை இனிமையாக்கிக்கொள்ள வேண்டியது மானிடர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரின் கடமை. 3F | 3F.

சம்பவங்கள் ஏதேனும் உள்ளனவா? அப்படி இருந்தால் அதைக் கூறியருள வேண்டும்''
என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு மகாவிஷ்ணு புன்னகையோடு பதில் அளிக்கத் தொடங்கினார். ` |

Garuda asked Lord Vishnu, "Thou, are there any instances of people who
have taken a dead birth before? If so, please tell me." Lord Vishnu began to reply with a smile. |
| 4A. `திரேதாயுகத்தில்
மஹோதயம் என்று ஒரு நகரம் இருந்தது. அந்த நகரத்தை பப்ருவாகனன்
என்கிற மன்னன் ஆண்டுவந்தான். ஒருநாள் அவன் வேட்டையாட கானகம் ஒன்றினுள்
சென்றான். அப்போது அவன் கவனத்தை ஒரு மான் கவர்ந்தது. மான் அரசனைக் கண்டதும்
கானகத்துக்குள் ஓடத் தொடங்கியது. அரசனும் அதைத் துரத்திக்கொண்டு ஓடினான். மானைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து ஓடியதால் மன்னன் வழியைக் கவனிக்காமல் இருண்ட வனப் பகுதிக்குள் சென்றுவிட்டான். ஓரிடத்தில் மான் நிற்க, அரசன் மானை நோக்கி அம்பு எய்தான். அம்பு மானின் மீது பட்டது. மான் அந்த இடத்திலேயே சுருண்டு விழுந்தது. மன்னன் மகிழ்ச்சியோடு அந்த இடத்துக்குப் போய் மானைத் தொடப் போன போது, அந்த மான் கண் இமைக்கும் நேரத்தில் மீண்டும் உயிருடன் எழுந்து வனப்பகுதிக்குள் பாய்ந்து மறைந்தது. 4A |

"In Treta Yuga, there was a city called Mahodayam. The
city was ruled by a king named Pabruvahana. One day he went into a
forest to hunt. Then a deer caught his attention. When the deer saw the
king, it started running into the forest. The king chased it and ran. Having run after the deer, the king did not notice he lost his way and went into the dark forest. The deer stopped at one place and the king shot an arrow at the deer. The arrow hit the deer. The deer curled up on the spot. When the king went to the spot with joy and touched the deer, the deer came back to life in the twinkling of an eye and jumped into the forest and disappeared. 4A |

அதிர்ந்து நின்றான். அப்போதுதான், தான் அடர்த்தியான வனப் பகுதிக்குள் வந்து
சிக்கிக்கொண்டதை உணர்ந்தான். அவனோடு வந்த அவன் படை வீரர்கள் தன் பின்னே
வரவில்லை என்பதையும் அறிந்துகொண்டான். வெளியே செல்ல வழி தேடினான். அப்போது
பயங்கரமான சத்தம் கேட்டது. பலர் அழுவதுபோலவும் பயமுறுத்து வது போலவும்
குரல்கள் ஒலித்தன. மன்னன் ஒருகணம் அதிர்ந்துபோய் நின்றான். அப்போது, அவன்

| 5A. அவற்றின் கோர வடிவங்களைக் கொண்டு அவை பிரேத ஜன்மங்கள் என்பதை மன்னன் புரிந்துகொண்டான். ஒரு மரத்தின் அடியில் அச்சத்தோடு நின்றான். அப்போது அவனை ஒரு பிரேத ஜன்மம் நெருங்கி வந்தது. மன்னன் அச்சத்தில் நடுங்கினான். அப்போது அந்த பிரேத ஜன்மம் பேசத்தொடங்கியது. 5A | 5A.
The king understood from their hideous forms that they
were corpse births. He stood under a tree in fear. At that time a dead
body was approaching him. The king trembled with fear. Then the corpse

| `5B. மன்னா! என்னைக் கண்டு நீ
பயப்பட வேண்டாம். எனக்கு உதவ யாருமில்லை. அதனால்தான்
உன்னை நாடிவந்தேன். நீயே எனக்கு இந்த பிரேத ஜன்மம் நீங்க உதவ வேண்டும்'
என்றது. இதைக் கேட்ட மன்னன் ஆச்சர்யமடைந்தான். `நீ பிரேத ஜன்மமாக இருந்தும் எப்படிப் பேசுகிறாய்?' என்று கேட்டான். 5B |
5B. 'King! Dont be afraid of me. There was no one to help me. That's why I came to you. You have to help me get rid of this corpse." Hearing this, the king was surprised. 'How can you speak when you are a corpse?' he asked. 5B |
| 5C. அதற்கு அந்த பிரேத ஜன்மம், `நான் வாழும் காலத்தில் சில தான தர்மங்கள் செய்ததுண்டு. மரணத்துக்குப் பின் எனக்கு யாரும் கர்மா காரியங்களைச் செய்யவில்லை என்பதால் பிரேத ஜன்மம் எடுக்க வேண்டியதாயிற்று. நான் செய்த நல்வினைப்பயனாய் உங்களிடம் பேசும் சக்தி கிடைத்தது' என்றது. 5C |
5C. The dead body replied, "During my lifetime, I have done some charity. Since no one did karma for me after death, I had to take a dead birth. Because of the good I did, I got the power to speak to you." 5C |

`சரி... நான் உனக்கு எப்படி உதவ வேண்டும்?' என்று
கேட்டான் மன்னன். `அரசே, இறந்தவனுக்குச் செய்ய வேண்டிய சம்ஸ்காரம், சஞ்சயனம், நித்யவிதி, தஸாஸ்து, விருஷோர்சர்க்கம், ஏகாஹோமம், சபிண்டிகரணம், ஷோடசம், மாசிக சிராத்தம் ஆகிய சடங்குகள் எதுவும் எனக்குச் செய்யப்படவில்லை. பொதுவாக மகன் அல்லது தந்தைவழி உறவினர்கள் ஆகியோர் இந்த சடங்கு களைச் செய்யலாம். அல்லது புரோகிதர் செய்யலாம். எனக்கு அப்படி ஒருவரும் செய்யாமல் விட்டதால், நான் பிரேத ஜன்மம் எடுக்க வேண்டியதாயிற்று. ஒரு தேசத்தின் மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் அரசனே பொறுப்பு. நீ அரசன் என்பதால், உன் பிரஜைகளுக்காக நீ கர்மா காரியங் களைச் செய்யலாம்' என்றது. 5D |

'Well... How can I help you?' asked the king. 'O king, none of the rituals to be performed for the deceased such as Samskara, Sanjayana, Nitya Vidhi, Dasastu, Vrishorsarga, Eka Homam, Sapindikaranam, Shodasa and Masika Sraddha have been performed for me. Usually the son or paternal relatives can perform these rituals. Or the priest can. Since no one had done that to me, I had to take a dead birth. The king is responsible for all the people of a nation. Since you are a king, you can perform karma for your subjects.' 5D |

இதைக் கேட்ட அரசன் சற்று தயங்கி நின்றான். `மன்னா, நீ தயங்க வேண்டியதில்லை. என்னிடம் இந்த வனத்தில் விளைந்த ஒரு ரத்தினம் உண்டு. அதை உனக்குத் தருகிறேன். அதைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டு எனக்குச் செய்ய வேண்டிய சடங்குகளைச் செய்வாயாக' என்றது பிரேத ஜன்மம். மன்னன் அந்த ரத்தினத்தைப் பெற்றுக் கொண்டான். பிறகு, `உன்போல் பிரேத ஜன்மம் எடுத்தவர்களுக்கு எப்படிப்பட்ட சடங்குகள் செய்யவேண்டும்? என்ன செய்தால் இந்தப் பிரேத ஜன்மம் நீங்கும்?' என்று கேட்டான். 5E ` . |

மன்னா நாராயண பலி என்கிற ஒரு கர்மா காரியத்தைச்
செய்ய வேண்டும். அவ்வாறு செய்தால் பிரேத ஜன்மம் நீங்கும். ஓர் ஆன்மா
மேலுலகம் செல்ல வழி கிடைக்கும்' என்றது பிரேத ஜன்மம். `நாராயண பலி என்னும் சடங்கினைச் செய்தால் உனக்கு நற்கதி கிட்டும் என்றால் நான் உடனடியாக அதைச் செய்வேன். அதைச் செய்யும் முறையை எனக்குச் சொல்வாயாக' என்று மன்னன் கூற பிரேத ஜன்மம் நாராயண பலி குறித்துச் சொல்ல ஆரம்பித்தது. 5F |

'Manna Narayana Bali is a karma to be performed. If you
do so, the corpse birth will be removed. A soul will find a way to go to
the next world." 'If you perform the ritual of Narayana Bali and you get bliss, I will do it immediately. Tell me how to do it,' said the king, and the dead body began to speak of Narayana Bali. 5F |
