When Garuda took permission from Lord Vishnu and left, Indra slapped Garuda on the back with a thunderbolt. The strongest of weapons in his arsenal is the thunderbolt. Even such a thunderbolt could not do anything to Garuda. But Garuda turned around to ask, 'Who hit me?' Indra trembled with fear.

Garuda said to him, "Indira! Vajjirayudham will not do anything to me. The attempt to hit me in the back with it was childish. At the same time, this weapon was made from the spine of the sage 'Dadisi'. Therefore, as a mark of respect to the Maharshi, I shed only two feathers. Otherwise, you can't do anything to me.’’ Hearing it, Indra was terrified.

Looking at Garuda with folded hands, he said, "Garuda! You are so strong that you don't need nectar at all. We gods like us need it to protect themselves from evildoers. Snakes are deadly. What is elixir for them? And do you not know that no boon received by the wicked brings good? Therefore, please return the pot of nectar," prayed Indra.
எப்போது கருடன் முன்பு இந்திரன் கைகூப்பி நின்று கெஞ்சினானோ அப்போதே வாலகில்ய முனிவர்களின் தவம் பலித்து விட்டது. கருடனும் அதை உணர்ந்து இந்திரனுக்கு மறுமொழி கூறினார்.6	6. The moment Indra pleaded before Garuda with folded hands, the penance of Valakhilya sages was fulfilled. Garuda also sensed this and replied to Indra.
`இந்திரா, நான் இந்த அமிர்தத்தைப் பாம்புகளிடம் ஒப்படைத்து, என் தாயை அடிமைத்தளையில் இருந்து மீட்பதாகச் சொல்லியிருக்கிறேன். எனவே நான் அவர் களிடம் ஒப்படைத்துவிடுகிறேன். `கொண்டு வருகிறேன்' என்றுதான் வாக்குக் கொடுத் திருக்கிறேன். அவர்களுக்கு ஊட்டிவிடு கிறேன் என்று சொல்லவில்லை. எனவே அதைப் பயன்படுத்திச் சிறிது கால அவகாசத்தை உனக்காக உருவாக்குகிறேன். பிறகு அவர்களிடம் இருந்து இதைப் பெற்றுக் கொள்வது உன் பொறுப்பு'' என்று கருடன் சொல்ல, இந்திரன் மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அவ்வாறே செய்வதாகக் கூறினான்.7	7. ̃Indira, I have promised to hand over this nectar to the snakes and rescue my mother from slavery. So I hand it over to them. I have promised to 'bring it'. I'm not saying I'm feeding them. So I'll use the time to rescuer my mother from Kadru and give you some time. Then it is your responsibility to take the nectar from them," said Garuda, and Indra gladly accepted the offer.
கருடன் புன்னகையோடு விடைபெற்றுக்கொண்டு, கத்ருவும் அவள் பிள்ளைகளும் இருக்கும் இடத்துக்கு வந்தார். 8	8. Garuda said goodbye with a smile and walked over to where Kadru and her children were.
தாயே, சகோதரர்களே... நீங்கள் கேட்ட படி அமிர்தக் கலசத்தைக் கொண்டுவந்துவிட்டேன். பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள். இந்தக் கணம் முதல், நானும் என் தாயும் உங்களுக்கு அடிமை இல்லை'' என்றார். 9	9. "Mother, brothers... I have brought the bowl of nectar as you asked. Receive it. From this moment forward, my mother and I are not your slaves."
பாம்புகளும் சரியென்று தலையாட்டின. பிறகு, ``கருடா, இந்த அமிர்தத்தை எப்படிப் புசிக்கவேண்டும் என்று சொல்லவில்லையே...'' என்று கேட்டன. 10	10. The snakes nodded. Then he said, "Garuda, you didn't tell me how to eat this nectar..." They asked.
கருட புராண ரகசியங்கள் அதற்கு கருடன், ``தர்ப்பைப் புல் மீது அமிர்தத்தை வைத்து, அனைவரும் புனித நீராடி ஹோமம் ஒன்றைச் செய்து பிறகு அமிர்தத்தைப் புசிக்க வேண்டும்'' என்று சொல்லவும் பாம்புகள், கருடனை நோக்கி ``நீயே அமிர்த கலசத்தை தர்ப்பையைப் பரப்பி அதன் மீது வைத்துவிட்டுப் போ'' என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு, நீராடப் போயின.11	11. Secrets of Garuda Purana Garuda said, "Put the nectar on the Darpa grass, All of you should take a holy bath and perform a homa and then eat the nectar." The snakes asked Garuda to spread the Darpa grass and place the nectar pot on top of the grass. Soon after, the snakes left for ritual bathing.
கருடனும் அவ்வாறே செய்து அதன்பின் அங்கிருந்து புறப்பட்டுப்போனார். இதுதான் தருணம் என்று காத் திருந்த இந்திரன் வேகமாக வந்து அமிர்தக் கலசத்தைத் தூக்கிக் கொண்டு போனான். நீராடச் சென்ற பாம்புகள் திரும்பிவந்தன.12	12. Garuda did the same and then departed. Indra, who had been waiting for this moment, came quickly and carried away the pot of nectar. The snakes went to bathe and returned.
கருடனும் இல்லை, அமிர்தக் கலசமும் இல்லை. தர்ப்பைப் புல் மட்டும் பரப்பி வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. இந்திரன் அமிர்த கலசத்தோடு வானில் பறந்துபோவதைப் பார்த்தன. தாங்கள் ஏமாந்துபோனதைப் பாம்புகள் உணர்ந்தன. அவர்கள் எப்படி வினதையை ஏமாற்றி அடிமைப் படுத்தினார் களோ, அதேபோன்று அவர்களும் ஏமாற்றப்பட்டு அமிர்தத்தை இழந்தார்கள். 13	13. There is no Garuda, no pot of nectar. Only the grass was spread out. They saw Indra flying in the sky with a pot of nectar. The snakes realized that they had been deceived. Just as they deceived and enslaved Vinata, so they too were deceived and lost their nectar.
எனினும், தர்ப்பையில்தானே அமிர்தம் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. அதை நக்கினால் தங்களுக்குச் சாகாவரம் கிடைக்கும் என்று எண்ணி, தர்ப்பைப் புல்லை நக்கிய பாம்பு களின் நாக்குகள் பிளவுற்றன. அப்போது முதல் பாம்புகளுக்குப் பிளவுற்ற நாவுகள் உண்டாயின என்கிறது புராணம். 14	14. However, the nectar was kept on the Darpa. Thinking there must be some nectar on the grass, some snakes licked the grass which resulted in split tongues of the snakes. They would get immortality. Puranic legend has it that from then on, snakes developed cleft tongues.
மகாபாரதம் சொல்வது என்ன? பாண்ட வர்களுக்கும் கௌரவர்களுக்கும் இடையி லான போர் எப்படி ஏற்பட்டது? கௌரவர் கள் சூழ்ச்சி செய்து பாண்டவர்களை அடிமைப்படுத்தியதால் ஏற்பட்டது. 15	15. What does the Mahabharata say? How did the war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas come about? It was due to the Kauravas conspiring and subjugating the Pandavas.
கத்ருவும் சூழ்ச்சி செய்து, உச்சிரவஸின் வாலில் பாம்புகளைப் படரச் செய்து அதைக் கறுப்பு என்று நம்பவைத்து வினதையை அடிமைப்படுத்தினாள்.வினதையை மீட்க அவள் மகனாக கருடன் வந்தார். மாவீரத்தோடு சண்டையிட்டும் சிறு சூழ்ச்சி செய்தும் பாம்புகளை வீழ்த்தினார். இங்கே பாண்டவர்களுக்காக பகவான் கிருஷ்ணரே வந்தார். பகவத் கீதையை உரைத்தும் சில சூழ்ச்சிகளைச் செய்தும் பாண்டவர்களை வெல்லவைத்தார். 16	16. Kadru also conspired and enslaved Vinatha by spreading snakes on the tail of Uchravas and making her believe that it was black. He fought valiantly and by small tricks he defeated the snakes. Lord Krishna Himself came here for the Pandavas. He made the Pandavas win by reciting Bhagavad-gītā and performing some tricks.
'அதர்மம் தோற்கும் தர்மம் வெல்லும்' என்கிற பெரும் நியதியை மகாபாரதத்தின் தொடக்கத்திலேயே கருட சரித்திரத்தின் மூலம் வியாசர் சொல்லிவிடுகிறார். 17	17. In the beginning of the Mahabharata, Vyasa has stated the great rule that 'adharma will defeat and dharma will win'
சரி, கருடன் பிறகு என்ன செய்தார்? தான் பகவானுக்குக் கொடுத்த வாக்கைக் காப்பாற்ற மகாவிஷ்ணுவின் சந்நிதிக்குச் சென்று வணங்கி நின்றார். தாய்மீது பாசம் கொண்டு தன் பராக்கிரமத்தை வெளிப் படுத்திய கருடனைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்தார் பகவான் விஷ்ணு.18	18. Well, what did Garuda do next? He went to Lord Vishnu and worshipped Lord Vishnu in the spirit of having kept his promise. Lord Vishnu was pleased to see Garuda showing his prowess out of love for his mother.
``கருடா, அமிர்தத்தைக் கொண்டு சென்றாயே, அதை நீ ஏன் பருகவில்லை?" என்று கேட்டார். 19	19. "Garuda, you carried the nectar, why didn't you drink it?" he asked.
அதற்குக் கருடன் பணிவோடு, ``சுவாமி, அமிர்தம்... அமிர்தம்... என்கிறார்களே அது எப்படி இருக்கும் என்று நான் சிறிது சுவைத்துப் பார்த்தேன். ஆனால் அது சுவையாகவே இல்லை. எப்போது உங்களை தரிசித்தேனோ, அப்போது எனக்கு அமிர்தம் உண்ட திருப்தி கிடைத்தது. 20	20. Garuda replied humbly, "Swami, Amirtham... Ambrosia... I tasted it a little bit. But it wasn't tasty at all. When I saw you, I got the satisfaction of eating nectar.
நீரே ஆராவமுதன் என்பதைப் புரிந்து கொண்டேன். எனவே, அளவில்லாத தங்களின் கருணை எனும் அமிர்தத்தைப் பருகுவது என்று முடிவு செய்துவிட்டேன். தாங்கள் எப்போதும் எனக்கு அனுக்கிரகம் செய்ய வேண்டும்'' என்று வணங்கி நின்றார். 21	21. I understand that you are Ārāvamuda.( the unsatiating nectar) So I have decided to drink the nectar of your infinite mercy. May you always bless me."
அன்று முதல் இன்றுவரை கருடன் பகவானுக்குக் கொடியாகவும் வாகனமாக வும் இருக்கிறார். பகவானைக் கருட சேவையில் தரிசனம் செய்வதே பெரும் பாக்கியம். அப்படி தரிசனம் செய்யும்போது நம் வினைகள் விலகும்.22	22. From that day till today, Garuda is the flag and vehicle of the Lord. It is a great privilege to have darshan of the Lord in Garuda Seva. When we do that, our sins will be removed.
நாக தோஷம் முதலான சகல தோஷங்களும் நொடிப் பொழுதில் தீரும். விஷ ஜந்துக்கள் நம்மை அண்டாது. மகான்கள் அருளிய `கருட தண்டகம்' முதலான மந்திரங்களைச் சொல்லிவர, நம் வாழ்வில் எல்லா நலமும் வளமும் உண்டாகும். 23	23. All the doshas like Naga dosha will be cured in a second. Poisonous creatures will not reach us. Chanting mantras like 'Garuda Dandakam' given by saints will bring all the health and prosperity in our life.
அமிர்தம் என்ன தரும்? மரணமில்லாப் பெருவாழ்வு. ஆனால் அதனால் துயரங்களும் தொல்லைகளும் தீர்வதில்லை. உதாரணம் தேவர்கள். அமிர்தத்தை அருந்தியும் அவர் கள் ஆசைகளால் அலைவுற்று அசுரர்களால் துன்பப்படும் நிலைக்கு ஆளாயினர். 24.	24. What does nectar give? Immortal life. But it does not solve the sorrows and troubles. For example, the gods. Even after drinking the nectar they were tormented by desires and were subjected to suffering from the Asuras.
ஆனால் பகவான் நாமத்தை உச்சரித்து அவர் திருவடியைப் பற்றிக்கொண்ட வர்களுக்கு, ஆராவமுதனாக அவர் தன்னையே வழங்குவார். மரணமில்லா பெரு வாழ்வு அனைவருக்கும் வாய்க்கும். இந்த உண்மையை அறிந்தவர் கருடன். அதனால் தான் அமிர்தத்தை விடுத்து மகா விஷ்ணுவின் திருவடிகளைச் சரணடைந்தார். 25	25. But to those who chant the name of the Lord and hold His feet, He will offer Himself as Aravamudhan. Everyone will have a great life without death. It was Garuda who knew this truth. That is why he left the nectar and surrendered to the feet of Lord Vishnu.
அப்படிப்பட்ட கருடன், இந்த உலகில் நாம் வாழ வேண்டிய நல்லொழுக்கங்கள் குறித்து விளக்குவதற்காகக் கேட்ட கேள்வி களும், அதற்கு பகவான் விஷ்ணு அருளிய பதில்களுமே கருடபுராணம். 26	26. பகவான் விஷ்ணுவிடம் பல்வேறு கேள்வி களைக் கேட்டு விடைகளைப் பெற்ற கருடன் நிறைவாக, ``சுவாமி! தங்களின் பதில்கள் மூலம் இந்தப் பிரபஞ்சத்தின் ரகசியங்கள் பலவற்றை அறிந்துகொண்டோம். ஆனாலும் சிறு சந்தேகம் உள்ளது. அவற்றுக்கும் தாங்களே பதில் கூற வேண்டும்.27	27. Garuda asked Lord Vishnu many questions and obtained answers and finally said, "Swami! Through your answers, we have learned many secrets of the universe. But there is little doubt. They also have to answer for themselves.
சுவாமி! இந்த உலகில் பிறந்த ஜீவர்களில்... புண்ணியம் செய்தவர், பாவம் செய்தவர் என்பதைப் பகுத்தறிவால் அறிய வழி உண்டா? பாவம் செய்பவரை தண்டிக்க யமன் மட்டுமே தகுதியானவரா? வேறு ஒருவரும் இல்லையா... இந்த விஷயத்தை தாங்கள் விளக்க வேண்டும். 28	28. Garuda: Swami! Of the creatures born in this world... Is there a way to know by reason whether one is a virtuous person or a sinner? Is Yama the only one worthy to punish the sinner? Is there no one else... You have to explain this matter.
காரணம், மனிதர்கள் பலரும் வாழும் காலத்தில் பல்வேறு துன்பங்களுக்கு ஆளாகிறார்கள். அதற்கான காரணம் அவர்களுக்குத் தெரிந்தால், அவர்கள் தங்களைக் காத்துக்கொள்வது எளிமையாக இருக்கும். அவர்களும் தர்மத்தின் வழியை அறிந்து அதின்படி நடப்பதன் மூலம் நரகத்தில் வீழ்வதிலிருந்து தங்களைக் காத்துக் கொள்ள முடியும்'' என்றார். 29	29. The reason is that many human beings are subjected to various sufferings during their lifetime. If they know why, it will be easier for them to protect themselves. They too can save themselves from falling into hell by knowing the path of dharma and following it."
கருடனின் கேள்வியிலிருந்த பொது நலத்தை அறிந்த பகவான் விஷ்ணு, அவரின் கேள்விக்குப் பதில் சொல்ல ஆரம்பித்தார்.30 - அடுத்த இதழில் நிறைவுறும்...	30. Lord Viṣṇu, knowing the general welfare of Garuda's question, began to answer his question. - Will be completed in the next issue...
