Kural 41: இல்வாழ்வான் என்பான் இயல்புடைய மூவர்க்கும் நல்லாற்றின் நின்ற துணை. இல்வாழ்வான் என்பான். The householder (the one who lives at home) இயல்பு உடைய மூவர்க்கும் நல் ஆற்றின் நின்ற துணை. Supports, sustains, and helps his ilk like the relatives, the friends and the poor. 41. The householder supports, sustains, and helps his ilk like the relatives, the friends and the poor. |
Kural 42: துறந்தார்க்கும் துவ்வா தவர்க்கும் இறந்தார்க்கும் இல்வாழ்வான் என்பான் துணை. துறந்தார்க்கும் துவ்வாதவர்க்கும் இறந்தார்க்கும் For the hermits, the indigent, and the dead (the manes) இல்வாழ்வான் என்பான் 'துணை' the householder offers succor and support 42. For the hermits, the needy, and the deceased, the householder offers succor and support. |
| Kural 43: தென்புலத்தார் தெய்வம் விருந்தொக்கல் தானென்றாங்கு ஐம்புலத்தாறு ஓம்பல் தலை. தென்புலத்தார் தெய்வம் விருந்து ஒக்கல் தான் என்று The Manes, the God, the guest, the kinsfolk, and the self ஐம் புலத்து ஆறு ஓம்பல் தலை. The five categories head the list deserving of hosting. தென்புலத்தார் = Those who live in the south = The Manes = A class of Devas or Gods in the world of Yama, the god of death. ஐம் புலத்து ஆறு = five categories. ஆறு = To preserve. ஓம்பல் = hosting efficiency. தலை = That which is first, best, highest, head. 43. The Manes, the God, the guest, the kinsfolk, and the self: The five categories are at the head, deserving of hosting. |
Kural 44: பழியஞ்சிப் பாத்தூண் உடைத்தாயின் வாழ்க்கை வழியெஞ்சல் எஞ்ஞான்றும் இல். பழி அஞ்சிப் பாத்து ஊண் வாழ்க்கை உடைத்தாயின் Fearing blame, sharing food, if life lived as such by வழி எஞ்ஞான்றும் எஞ்சல் இல். It is always a deathless path. பழி = blame. பாத்து = share. ஊண் = food, eat. எஞ்ஞான்றும் = always, ever. எஞ்சல் = death. 44. If you live a blameless life and share food, It is always a deathless path. |

Kural 45: அன்பும் அறனும் உடைத்தாயின் இல்வாழ்க்கை பண்பும் பயனும் அது. இல்வாழ்க்கை அன்பும் அறனும் உடைத்தாயின் If love and virtue exist in the life of householder அது பண்பும் பயனும். That is virtuous conduct and its fruit. 45. If love and virtue exist in the life of householder, that is virtuous conduct and its fruit. |
Kural 46: அறத்தாற்றின் இல்வாழ்க்கை ஆற்றின் புறத்தாற்றில் போஒய்ப் பெறுவ தெவன். இல்வாழ்க்கை அறத்தாற்றின் ஆற்றின் If you conduct your domestic life according to Dharma புறத்தாற்றின் போஒய்ப் பெறுவது எவன். What could be achieved by the other path? 46. If you conduct your domestic life according to Dharma, what could be achieved by any other path? |

Kural 47: இயல்பினான் இல்வாழ்க்கை வாழ்பவன் என்பான் முயல்வாருள் எல்லாம் தலை. இல் வாழ்க்கை இயல்பினான் வாழ்பவன் என்பான் Man of the nature of a householder living in virtue முயல்வாருள் எல்லாம் தலை he is in the lead of those who endeavor to attain liberation. 47. Living the life of the nature of a householder, he is the head of those who endeavor to attain liberation. |
Kural 48: ஆற்றின் ஒழுக்கி அறனிழுக்கா இல்வாழ்க்கை நோற்பாரின் நோன்மை உடைத்து. ஆற்றின் ஒழுக்கி அறன் இழுக்கா இல்வாழ்க்கை Conducting without remiss a virtuous domestic life நோற்பாரின் நோன்மை உடைத்து. The householder endures patience more than the ascetic. ஆற்றின் ஒழுக்கி = To help to conduct; Conducting without remiss நோன்மை = patience, strength, magnanimity, penance நோற்பார் = தவம்செய்பவர் = Tapasvin, ascetic 48. Conducting without remiss a virtuous domestic life, the householder endures patience more than the ascetic. |

Kural 49: அறனெனப் பட்டதே இல்வாழ்க்கை அஃதும் பிறன்பழிப்ப தில்லாயின் நன்று. அறன் எனப்பட்டது இல்வாழ்க்கை Virtue is the hallmark of domestic life அஃதும் பிறன் பழிப்பது இல்லாயின் நன்று Likewise, if the other path (ascetic path) is above reproach. 49. Virtue is the hallmark of domestic life. Likewise, if the other path (ascetic path) is above reproach. |
Kural 50: வையத்துள் வாழ்வாங்கு வாழ்பவன் வானுறையும் தெய்வத்துள் வைக்கப் படும். வாழ்வாங்கு வையத்துள் வாழ்பவன் the householder living his domestic life in this world வான் உறையும் தெய்வத்துள் வைக்கப்படும். Will be placed among the heaven-dwelling gods. 50. The householder, leading the domestic life and living in this world will be placed among gods in heaven. |
